Reiki means "universal life-force energy". The existence of life force energy has been recognised for centuries and plays an important role in Eastern medicine.
Eastern philosophy of medicine believes that a free flow of this life force energy, known as Ki or Chi, is essential for health and well-being. Reiki, acupuncture, Shiatsu massage and disciplines such as yoga and Qi-Gong are all based on this philosophy.
Reiki was developed by a Japanese man Mikao Usui in the early twentieth century and is used for self healing, healing of others and distant healing. Training is provided by a Reiki Master who provides attunements for the individual training.
The attunements help to increase the flow of Ki or universal energy within an individual and in Reiki I training the attunements are used to heal the self. In Reiki II attunement helps to amplify the amount of healing energy and once attuned the individual is in a position to become a practitioner to give hands on, or hands off, healing to others. Distance healing may also be given.
What can I expect from a Reiki treatment?
Prior to treatment I will take notes on your general health and well-being. After this you lie flat on a couch or sit in a reclining chair, whichever is more comfortable. You remain fully clothed. As a practitioner I will treat the whole body, or, for a shorter treatment particular parts of the body where we agree you would like to receive treatment. Hands are placed over or on areas of the body whilst energy is flowing.
Whilst receiving treatment clients report feeling relaxed and sometimes will experience areas of heat or cold in different parts of their body. This is quite normal. At the end of the treatment clients can report feeling tired and sleepy or sometimes feeling more energised.
